Regarding Transporter Disruption, Arthur C. Clarke explores this concept in his non-fiction book: Profiles of the Future and comes to the same conclusion as you. Regardless of the technology used, you will be killed every time you travel.

I guess Futurama has the most comforting transporter technology, you just get sucked through a tube network.

oddly enough, the kids and i were talking about immortality this weekend. not as intensely as you did, of course, but we did. julian of course wants to be around forever. kira and i, though, only wanted to if we could be surrounded by all our friends and loved ones forever.

then, we started on the topic of overpopulation ;-)

yep. the average american family conversation.

Somehow I suspect I won't get to skip the "fun" parts (nor would that ultimately be very useful). But it would give me a head start on doing the work towards the dissertation, instead of spending two years tooling around in a variety of projects until I figured out where I was going. We'll see what happens - next fall is a seriously long time away given all I must accomplish by then!

What? a thesis proposal by next fall? What happened to classes and qualifying exams? That would put you ahead of me by a year!
